Traditional European saunas can typically get super hot, so it’s hard to breathe. Our infrared saunas use ceramic heated elements to gently warm your skin to encourage sweat in a warm environment where it’s easy to breathe normally.

The goal of any sauna is to make you sweat. Your high-temperature sauna does this by super-heating the air so that when you breathe your body’s autonomic nerve is triggered. This nerve controls your body temperature. When your body’s autonomic nerve is triggered, this makes your blood pressure and heart rate increase to pump blood to your extremities to cool off your organs. The sweat is triggered as a cooling mechanism.

Infrared saunas cause you to sweat without raising your core temperature. The gentle, but powerful, infrared heat warms your skin and triggers the sweat glands before your core body temperature rises. You go inside at 27-28C (82-84F) instead of 60-80C, like in the wood-fired sauna. You can breathe normally in the warm air as the temperature slowly rises. By the time it gets to about 40C (105F), you are usually soaked with sweat and ready to come out.  This means your body temp remains normal, and there is no recovery period. You don’t feel tired or knocked out by the heat.

Infrared light treatment usually works within just 15-20 minutes, without the need of extreme heat.  Infrared sauna treatments increase the following responses in your body: increased sweating, increased heart rate (similar to the clarity-of-mind feelings experienced from moderate exercise), relaxation responses triggered by the body's parasympathetic nervous system.

The health benefits may include: improving heart function, lowering chronic pain (including that from arthritis), limiting diabetes side effects, improving overall well-being.

Some studies have shown benefits of infrared sauna therapy for people with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic fatigue, poor digestion, depression & anger, chronic muscle & joint pains.

PLEASE NOTE: We strongly advise checking with your physician prior to beginning infrared sauna treatments to ensure this is safe for you!
If you experience dizziness, headaches, light-headedness or difficulty breathing in the sauna, exit immediately and visit your physician.

Indications

Improved Heart Health
Within minutes of sitting in an infrared sauna, your body’s natural response begins. Beads of sweat appear on your skin. Your blood vessels widen and increase blood flow. Your heart rate ticks up.Studies show that infrared saunas can help boost heart health and reduce blood pressure. Researchers equated the physical response of an infrared sauna session to walking at a moderate pace.

Soothing Sore Muscles
The improved blood circulation brought on by an infrared sauna session can help speed up muscle recovery following physical activity, says Dr. Young. Regular use may even help athletes improve performance.

Pain Relief
Researchers found that infrared sauna therapy “may be a promising method for treatment of chronic pain.” The determination followed a two-year study where people showed improved outcomes with the treatment.

Relaxation
Warming your body seems to warm your soul, too. Setting aside some sauna time may help decrease depression, anxiety and stress. Basically, think of it as a meditation session in warmer temperatures.

Sleep
A bonus benefit to being more relaxed? Better sleep, which has also been linked to sauna use.

Fighting off Illness
There’s evidence that regular sauna use can help you avoid the common cold, says Dr. Young. Saunas also reduce oxidative stress, which is associated with cardiovascular disease, cancer and degenerative diseases like dementia.

More controversial are claims that sauna use can provide a detoxification effect as you sweat out toxins such as cadmium and lead. “That research is still in its infancy,” cautions Dr. Young.
